In his book, Outliers: The Story of Success, Malcolm Gladwell (The Tipping Point, Blink) reveals his findings that 10,000 hours of practice is required to achieve the level of mastery associated with being a world-class expert-in anything.

Gladwell says " it isn’t just our smart smarts, ambition, hustle and talent – It is, above all, practice – and not just any practice, a critical number of hours of focused practice - 10,000."

Gladwell gives examples such as the Beatles playing live 1,200 times between 1960-1964 times and Bill Gates having well over 10, 000 hours of programming before heading off to college.
